The problem it solves
Five remotes. A cheat sheet taped to the table. One person in the house who knows the sequence. A theater that technically works but nobody uses because starting a movie is a project. Smart control exists to kill this problem: one remote or app, plain-word buttons, everything automated behind the scenes.
Activities, not devices
You do not think "turn on the projector, switch the receiver to HDMI 2, dim the lights." You think "movie night." Activities match how you think: Watch TV, Movie Night, Game Time, Listen to Music, Off. One tap runs the whole sequence — devices, inputs, lights, shades — in the right order.
Lighting and shades join in
Theater lighting is part of the experience: lights fade when the movie starts, come up halfway when you pause, return after. Motorized shades close against the Florida sun on command or schedule. All of it lives in the same activities as the AV gear.
Voice and phone
"Movie night" to your voice assistant works — convenient with hands full of popcorn. The phone app mirrors the remote for browsing and control. But the physical remote remains the primary — because when the internet hiccups, the remote still runs the theater. Reliability first, convenience layered on top.
